Boulevard Sewage Treatment Plant
New Haven, Connecticut, 1995

In 1992, Michael Singer completed a master plan for one mile of the waterfront at Long Wharf. As a part of that plan he designated the defunct Boulevard Sewage Treatment Plant, at the southern end of the Long Wharf Park site, to be reused as a Vocational Training Center for Aquaculture. In 1995, Singer was commissioned by the Department of Parks and Recreation, to develop a plan and conceptual design for the reuse of the treatment plant building as an Aquaculture Vocational Training High School. The Sound School, added a new 40,000 square foot structure. The program for The Sound School facility provides for a multi-use facility, including a City Conference Center and Parks Department site. The plan was adopted by the city. Construction for The Sound School began in 2002. The NEA and New Haven Department of Parks and Recreation sponsored the Singer plan and conceptual design.
